About the Course

The course is based on the best-selling book by Sean Covey, ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.’ It helps teenagers practically apply personal leadership principles to the tough choices they face in the 21st century. The course format introduces powerful life changing ideas to teens, followed by inspiring videos that link to the ideas, high energy interactive exercises are used to apply the learning, and finally reflection time to personalise the learning. The 7 Habits for Teens training is a means for educators and parents to build teenagers self-confidence and interpersonal skills, improve student’s emotional wellbeing, boost achievement as well as raise life aspirations, and reduce school-wide discipline problems.

Life Skills

Education must increase one ability to cope with stress, adversity and uncertainty

Every teenager can excel, be happy and have meaningful relationships

Rethinking education so that wellbeing is of equal importance to academics

There is a philosophy and skill-set for teens that must be learnt and practiced for mental health

Personal leadership skills need to be learnt to lead a productive and happy life

Knowing what we really want from life

Giving, loving, caring, empathy and compassion this is primary success

Our achievements are secondary success.

The 7 Habits Solution

Life for teenagers today is much harder and more complex. There is increased pressure to achieve academically at school, an obsession with social media that goes way beyond addiction and a real lack of life skills to cope with any real, or perceived challenges. Teenagers find it almost impossible to unplug their electronic devices and focus on building real and meaningful relationships. The 7 Habits help teens gain vital perspective of what’s really important. It works from the inside out approach that gives them a mindset and skill set to cope with adversity and makes them less likely to get stressed out over setbacks. Importantly, it gives teens the skills to build effective relationships and get on well with others.

Two-Day Course

  • The course provides a step by step framework for taking full responsibility for one’s life so that a teenager has the tools for self-mastery.
  • Habits 1, 2 and 3 deal with the self-mastery – the private victory. Habits 4, 5 and 6 deal with effective relationships and teamwork – the public victory. Habit 7 holds all the other habits together – it’s the habit of wellbeing, renewal and wisdom.
  • The habits work from an inside out approach, they build progressively upon each other, they foster internal change in thinking and behaviours that result in a productive life.
  • Teenagers receive a copy of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens book by Sean Covey and a 50-page participant guide to work through on the course.

  • This course is highly interactive with many fun activities to personalise the learning, however, teenagers are expected to apply themselves and work on the course.

What Teenagers Say

“I liked the habit of choice. The course was really good. It helped me change my attitude towards school, parents, work, and lots of other stuff.”

Oliver Wilkins, 15 years old

“For me the biggest aspect that I felt applied to my life was the emphatic listening. It was extremely valuable and useful. I think that the course was good at provoking deeper thoughts and good at encouraging us to look at ourselves and focus on us. This isn’t really done, or encouraged much at school, or in other places. Making the experience very unique.”

Hannah Back, 15 years old

“It helped me not only to learn more about myself, but it also taught me skills that are really useful for being able to lead a more effective and productive life.”

Dani Pautz, 14 years old

“You must take this course because it teaches you all about self-confidence and how to see yourself and the world in a much more effective way.”

Ra-Maar Dronca, 15 years old

“My favourite habit was habit 5 – Seek First to Understand, then be Understood. I loved doing this course, not only was it educating, but I had a lot of fun. The course leaders were amazing and so inspiring. I would definitely encourage others to go.”

Nicki Wientjens, 12 years old
